The change of guard on the global stage awakens historical memory. Europe is called to bear the weight of the new era.
In the quiet before the storm, Europe hears the call of history.
The global order is changing.
The United States' monopoly on power is openly challenged by the economic and strategic rise of China.
Just like any historical change of guard among superpowers, so too now, the great regions are preparing for the unpredictable.
Europe, tired from decades of peace, is rebuilding the machinery of war.
Silently. Methodically. Relentlessly.
It seeks strategic autonomy, invests in defense, and reorganizes its alliances.
Fear is not yet on the lips of the people, but governments know: the new era will not be easy.
In times of great upheaval, historical consciousness is invaluable.
Penelope Delta, a Greek novelist whom I extensively enjoyed reading during my childhood, wrote in The Secrets of the Marsh:
“We do not fight for glory, nor for interest.
We fight because the land that gave birth to us calls for help.
Because truth and faith seek defenders.
Because there are moments in a man’s life when his heart says:
- Now you must die for life to be just.”
Let us be ready.
History does not wait for the unprepared. And both Greece and Europe must answer whether they are ready to defend the values that formed them.
Europe must prepare, not to conquer, but to survive.
To defend what it has gained with great difficulty and even more difficulty has maintained.
History returns, and this time, technology assures us it will show no mercy to anyone.
